How Best to Travel to Villas in Orlando?
As the state of Florida is easily one of the busiest parts of the United States where tourism is concerned, you can bet your bottom dollar that there are numerous transport options: both on how you decide to get to the state in the first place and for getting around and about when you get there. The purpose of this article is help you plan your trip and really make the most of your stay in Orlando villas.
So, first of all, let us take a look at the airlines that travel to Orlando and the airports they are most likely to land at. As a rule of thumb, you will generally tend to find that the national flag-carrying airlines will land at Orlando International Airport (MCO); whereas the charter airlines tend to land at Sanford International (SFB). There is a third airport that serves Orlando: Orlando Executive Airport (ORL), but something tells me that you probably won’t be arriving at this one!
British Airways, American Airways, United Airways and Virgin Atlantic all have services from the UK to MCO. This is a very modern and opulent airport – you get the overall feeling that you have arrived at a luxurious destination when you arrive here. There was only one problem that I found when I arrived at MCO (this may have changed since!), I did not like the fact that after you have gone through US Immigration and Customs control and collected your suitcase, you were then forced to surrender your luggage, yet again!, for further security checks. This was the most disorganised procedure I have ever encountered and I found it highly annoying and officious! Hopefully, this airport has now sorted this problem out and they undertake all relevant security checks before you collect your bags for the first time.
SFB Airport can be found north-east of Orlando, but is still conveniently close enough to all of the villas in Orlando. Monarch Airways, Thomas Cook Airways and Thomson Airways are a few examples of the charter airlines that fly into this airport.
Once you have arrived in Orlando, there are plenty of taxis available from either of the main airports to transport you to your self catering property. This mode of transport can be quite expensive, however, and it is always highly recommended that you ascertain the relevant price for the journey before you travel anywhere. Be aware of the fact that it is also usual practice to tip in the US – at least 10% extra on top of the price should usually be the absolute minimum.
By far the best mode of transport to rely upon once you have arrived in Orlando is your own rented car. You can arrange to collect this at the airport and then you are off straight away, to start enjoying your holiday from the offset. One word of warning here, though, if you are looking to do this: make sure you have paid all relevant insurances and taxes before you collect the car. I have heard of people being stung by massive additional payments when they collect the vehicle – so make sure you check everything out thoroughly and to be safer, try to rely on the more reputable car hire companies.
On the days you intend to visit Disneyworld, it might be a good idea for you to leave the car at home. There are plenty of ways of getting to the resort in the first place and once you are there, the resort offers great bus links between all of the main attractions that are regular, comfortable and highly reliable.
